The Sound of Music

Today’s post we go back to the San Juan Mountains of Silverton Colorado. We spent quite a bit of time this past summer in the mountains while vacationing in Durango. This image was taken while we were out offroading on the California Gulch trail.
When I saw this photo I immediately thought of the movie “The Sound of Music”. I can honestly say I’ve never seen the movie other than passing moments when I was scrambling to get out of the house when my wife and daughter have it on. I’m sure it is a good movie I just can’t bring myself to watch it.
I decided to frame the dead tree in the image just to add contrast of old and new. It seemed to fit against the lush green valley.
For the photogs out there this may be a good image to play with Photoshop’s content aware brush? I’ve never used it but this may be a chance to play with it and see if the tree can be removed completely.

As for the content aware brush, I think that it would definitely work to get the tree out. Even if it was a little off, you could always use a clone stamp to patch it up.

One of my favorite areas of Colorado Chris and you have captured it beautifully. I think you could get the tree out of the image with the content aware but as Dave says, it would probably need touch-up. I think the tree adds interest.

The tree helps to add additional depth to the image. The content-aware brush would probably do a good job in removing most, if not all, of the tree. However, I would leave it exactly where it is.
This is so like the ‘Sound of Music’ country. I can hear the song ‘The hills are alive…….’ Seen it so many times, because my daughter always wanted to see it every time it was reprised! The tree provides great foreground contrast, I wouldn’t want to lose it.. Beautiful walking country.
