Breaking Through

An Arizona sunset | Chris Frailey Photography

Today’s post is all about highlighting Mother Nature.  As you can see she can put on quite a show when she chooses to do so.

Last week I ventured out for my first storm chase of the 2012 season.  I was headed south to the Casa Grande area when I noticed the sun beams breaking out in the distance.  I pulled over and set up for a few quick brackets.  The haboob coming in from the south was getting larger and knew I only had a few minutes to capture this scene.

Satisfied with my shots I jumped back in the Tacoma and headed into the dust storm.  Within 10 minutes of driving I was engulfed in near blackout conditions as I drove into the haboob.  I managed to get to the “backside” of the dust storm and spot lightning in the Casa Grande area.  Good times were to come as I got several lightning captures that night.

Tonight we have another opportunity for more storms and I couldn’t be happier.  Oh monsoon season how I have missed you.

Until next time…
