Into The Mist

A fog covered scene featuring two trees.

Today’s post comes from the archives.  This image was shot back in August of last year while on a camping trip.

We were camping on the Mogollon Rim which is about 90 miles from Phoenix.   It is a great summer time get away as its elevation is around 7,000 feet featuring mountainous country with beautiful pine trees. Much better than the 110 degree heat in Phoenix.

To make a long camping story short, the rain brought some of the thickest fog I have ever seen.  The kind of fog where you are driving about 10mph because you can’t see the road in front of you.  Awesome for pictures though. 🙂

You can not see it, but there is a forest back behind those few trees you see in the picture.  Crazy thick fog.

This image intrigues me despite the fact of its simple composition, I still find myself staring at it for lengths on end.  It’s as if I’m staring into the mist waiting to see what will come out.

Until next time..

    Brian & Candace

Meet Brian & Candace.  Yep, I agree.  Brian married well.  Inside joke. 😉 Getting this session together (which is not done by the way) has been several months in the making.  Earlier this year we scheduled the shoot only to find out there was a local race going on at our shooting location. Rather…

    Monsoon Rain

Click the pic for a bigger view Ok so our weather would be considered perfect by most given the sunshine and cloudless days. However, I still miss the monsoon rain. Don’t get me wrong, the 80 degree cloudless days are a welcome relief from the scorching days of summer but I still prefer a good…

  1. Love the simpleness of this shot. Just put in some sort of space alien and you have a great horror movie in the making. Great work!

  2. That does look a pinch spooky… great shot though. I would totally feel like something was going to slither out of the forest at any moment, especially after watching the Game of Thrones series.

  3. I love how you’ve captured the detail of the brush beneath the trees to anchor us in the frame. But it is tempting to float off into the mist. You’re right, it’s hard to leave!

  4. Amazing man! Love these kinds of shots. One day I’ll get one of my own, till then I think I’m content gawking at yours. Awesome!

  5. This is so great Chris. I’ve seen fog only once up there…sweet capture.

  6. Chris this is exactly the kind of thing I’m starting to get into more and more. Simple, well executed and meaningful. Glad to have seen it.

  7. Awesome, awesome, awesome shot, Chris. I really dig fog in images. I dont know exactly why that is, but to boil it down for me, it certainly adds an emotion and a different dimension to the image. Had you shot the frame with out the fog, would you have posted it?

    1. Hi Jan. Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I’m way behind on everything.

To answer your question I don’t think I would of shot this without the fog. The background was of no interest and the trees themselves are not that special.
