I love shooting on location more than anything else, and this high country engagement session was no exception. This trip took us out of the desert and into the pine and aspen trees of the eastern high country.

Engagement Session in Arizona’s High Country

When I first met Charissa and Garrett I had a feeling if they hired me I would be in for some adventure. After meeting them at a local Starbucks I was headed home when my cell chimed with a text message. What I saw on the preview screen was “Chris we want to hire you”. Holy moly they didn’t waste any time.Which of course there was no complaining from me.

After squaring away paperwork we began to discuss where they would like to shoot their engagement photos. I was thrilled when they started mentioning some outdoor locations. Having just shot a Flagstaff engagement session earlier I was hoping for something different, I got it. They asked me if I knew where Aztec Mountain was located. After living here for 15 years I thought I knew most of the state pretty well, but I didn’t have a clue. They were kind enough to tell where it was located and what to expect. Hearing about aspens and pine trees brought a smile to my face. A real high country engagement session was awaiting me.

When the big date arrived I set off to meet Charissa and Garrett at a small town south of the mountain. From there we followed each other up to Aztec Mountain. Anytime you leave the desert and head north it’s a treat to watch the landscape slowly change from cactus lined desert to beautiful pine trees sitting on mountainous terrain.

Once we got to our first location I checked the trip odometer to see it read 125 miles from home.  Wow didn’t realize I was that far out. Nonetheless we got out and started shooting in a nice open area surrounded by trees. As the afternoon wore on we got some amazing shots and made our way to the highest point for sunset photos. It was such a fun day. Charissa and Garrett play off of each other so well to keep things light hearted at all times. Between the fun times and the beautiful scenery it was an amazing day. I can’t wait for their wedding next year.
