Senior Portraits | Ryan

Oh man a senior portrait session with Ryan. A few weeks back I was contacted by Ryan’s mother about shooting her daughter’s senior portraits. I always get excited to do these as I love the energy the seniors bring to the shoot. It’s awesome to connect with the younger generation.

High School Senior Portraits On Location

Ryan’s mother was able to get a date that worked for all for us at the The Grove located in Chandler AZ. I had shot there once before for another senior shoot so I knew the area pretty well. One of the small negatives for photography has been the reduction in the actual groves on the grounds. The Grove Church has expanded in recent areas and have had to cut down a good portion of the groves to make way for new buildings. Awesome for them not so good for me. Nonetheless it’s still a fun place to shoot.

Upon arrival I could tell Ryan would be easy to work with for her senior portraits. She has that low key vibe that shines once you get to know her. We started the session with the normal small talk. The usual “where are you graduating from, where are you going to college, have you picked a school yet?” I could tell this was helping Ryan loosen up a bit. It’s always nerve wracking being in front of camera. Most of us are not use to it and it puts us out of our comfort zone.

The session continued as we made our way around The Grove. Ryan rocked the day like a seasoned pro. A few outfit changes were needed to provide a little variety. We finished off the shoot with a few shots using one of my old Victorian chairs. They certainly were not made for comfort but they do photograph well. What an amazing afternoon spent with this high school senior. I wish her nothing but the best on future endeavors! You will find a few of my favorite images below.
