A lightning strike near Eloy Arizona.

Ahh, so monsoon season has finally started here in the valley of the sun.  Last week we had more monsoon storms roll through the southern part of the state as I ended up in Eloy AZ at midnight.

Yep, on a Tuesday night I’m 70 miles from home photographing lightning at 12 am.  A little crazy yes, but the following day was a holiday so it was more than justified. Besides for a better part of the night I had not caught one strike so I had to stick around to get something. 🙂

That  night was an interesting one in terms of the weather.  There were a few large systems but none were “going off” in terms of lightning strikes.  They dumped a decent amount of rain which kept forcing me to drive out but not much lightning.  I wound up with about 5 keepers from the night.  That’s certainly not a lot for the time I was out but considering I was worried about going home empty handed, I’ll take it.

Until next time…
