This past weekend I managed to slip out of the house for a few hours for a much needed mini landscape shoot, or in this case a Tempe Town Lake sunset. The work week had been hectic and coupled with me being under the weather I needed a little AZ sunset therapy.
I had noticed the sky was setting up nicely for a great sunset with all the clouds hanging around at the end of the day. Since I was short on time I decided to head to one of my favorite local spots, Tempe Town Lake. Over the years I have taken quite a few shots here ranging from senior portraits to grungy HDR landscapes. I never grow tired of the area as I always find something new to photograph. I have yet to shoot a wedding here but would love to some day. Hint hint. 🙂
As the sun started to set I began walking up and down the beach front trying to figure where the sweet spot would be for the evening. It turned out there were several available and I chose the one above. The vanishing lines formed by both train tracks and the red sunset reflecting on the water really grabbed my attention.
Sunsets may be one of the most over photographed subjects, but for this evening it healed my soul. A little therapy never hurt anyone.
Until next time…
Camera: Canon 5DM2 with a Canon 17-40L
Processing: Lightroom 4.2, CS5, Phototools 2.6

This is terrific, Chris! I LOVE vanishing points, and your composition here including the still waters and the reflections they cast brings a whole new level to the concept!
