Super excited to share this panorama of the Milky Way over Willow Springs Lake today. I was able to capture this last weekend while we were camping in the high country of Arizona.

Stars Come Out for the Milky Way Over Willow Springs Lake

Last weekend we went to the Mogollon Rim located just outside of Payson Arizona to escape the Phoenix heat. It is one of our go to camping areas since it is only 2 hours away and at 7000 feet. When summer hits in the valley of the sun everyone heads to the high country for lower temps and pine trees.

During this trip I knew the Milky Way would be out and the moon would not interfere with any shots. A perfect combination for some astrophotography. I had two nights available to make my money on shooting and I was determined to make the most of it. One of the areas I researched was Willow Springs Lake. I couldn’t find many images of the lake with the Milky Way so I knew I wanted to shoot there. Searching Google maps showed that the boat dock area would provide a good view of the southern sky. I was set.

Upon arriving at the dock I was greeted by pure silence as I had the area to myself. Perfect! It was so nice to be the only one there and to just take in the beautiful view of the Milky Way over Willow Springs Lake. Over the last year I have become totally fascinated with capturing the stars and the Milky Way. Last year in Colorado I photographed the Milky Way over Molas Pass. Capturing it in the San Juan Mountains at 12000 feet was truly magical.

I have a few more images yet to process from this trip and look forward to sharing them with you in the near future. Stay tuned!

Until next time…
