Molten Clouds

Today I have something a little different on the blog with regards to a weather shot. Normally my weather shots involve lightning striking down on the Arizona desert.
Well this one doesn’t have lightning but I thought it still made for a pretty cool shot. These moody clouds were captured earlier this year just as the monsoon season was getting started. The large glow is the city lights of Tucson off in the distance. I was hoping to see a strike drop out of the clouds but never did. A ton of rain fell from them which did make for a soaked evening.
The cloud movement really showed how fast this storm was moving that night. With lightning shots you are typically doing 30+ second exposures so this extended time allowed the clouds to move across the frame for the dramatic look. I was a little disappointed with the lack of lightning that night but it is always good to come home with something.
Until next time…

This is a stunning shot Chris. One of your best – should be on your wall.
Yeah, this one may make the wall.
Awesome Chris! LOVE those clouds! Great work!
Awesome shot. The colours are amazing. No need for lightning when you can capture a scene like this!
Thank you Andy. The colors were crazy!
Wow! I was watching this storm from Sky Harbor! Love how there is some terrain in the shot as well as the colors! Overall fantastic image as usual!
Wow, Chris, I just love this one! Great colors in both the sky and the far off city, and that crazy rainfall in the distance adds so much to the story here!
The colors are pretty amazing. Well done!
