Two Birds One Storm

A lightning strike captured outside of Tucson Arizona.

It has been awhile since I posted a weather picture of lightning.  Today’s shot goes back to the summer of 2011.

On any given night of storm chasing you never know how far you will drive.  For the image above I had driven to Tucson which lies about 120 miles south of Phoenix.  The storm activity that night was quite high but fast moving.

Staying ahead of a storm that is moving fast can be quite challenging since highways don’t always lend themselves to the same direction.  Of course I’ve been known to take a shortcut through the desert to make up time.  I don’t recommend this tactic but in a pinch you do what you have to for the shot.

For those looking closely, the two black spots near the upper left are actually birds flying in this storm. I’m not sure if they were trying to get away or fly into the storm.  Hopefully the former.

Until next time…
