The last few days have been brutal here in Arizona.  No real monsoon activity and just flat out hot. So that means time to post a monsoon lightning shot in hopes of stirring up a storm.

This was caught a few months back near Apache Junction as I was headed home for the night.  This turned out to be a bonus shot for me as I had already bagged a bunch of shots earlier.  As I was driving back this cell started firing off to the north.  I was fortunate enough to have a place to pull off and setup my camera.

As I was setting up I saw the power lines and hoped for a shot with them in the foreground.  Five minutes in I got my wish.  I like how the bolts are charging the power lines.  Now if I can just get my wish for more monsoons!

Until next time…

  1. Nice job in picking a foreground littered with power lines. Nice to hear mother nature was happy to oblige you with a shot you wanted.

  2. Sweet! I still haven’t made it out to make a real effort at capturing lightning yet this year. Perhaps this week…

  3. Nice shot. It has been an incredible lightning season so far, but I am really itching for some more.

I wouldn’t mind a little rain here at my place either, we have hardly had a drop this monsoon season.

  4. Great shot, Chris. Hopefully your “monsoon dance” will work again. I hear storms are in the forecast this weekend. I’ll be at the hospital, sitting around while my wife has a baby. 😉 Good luck this weekend!!
