I know what you are thinking, what a perfect title for this image. 🙂  Given the name of the chapel I couldn’t resist titling it that.

This is one of those “get it later” places.  I’ve driven by it countless times and each time I always say “next time I’ll stop and get some pics”.  Well I finally decided to stop and grab a few pics after a recent outing to the Superstition Mountains.  The chapel sits just off the highway as you make your way to the Lost Dutchman State Park.  As I was pulling in the curator was closing up shop.  I asked if I could snap a few quick shots and he graciously agreed.  Of course it didn’t hurt that he was a photog himself, so he understood.

I started out processing this as a color HDR image but when I got through it looked “0k”.  Words that make me cringe to hear or say.  So that means time to go to black and white.  The subject certainly supported it so began my relationship with Nik Silver Efx Pro .  Starting with a preset and adding some tweaks I wound up with the image you see here.  I’ve got a long ways to go with this software but so far I’m very impressed with the options.  I can’t wait to really dig into learning all the features it has to offer.

For a little bit of background info on the chapel, please follow this link and read about some of the interesting history of the Elvis Memorial Chapel.

Until next time…

  1. Great shot, Chris. I’ve had the same problem with that location in years past…I drove by many many times before shooting it last spring. I went up and got my shot the same day snow dusted the mountains in the background. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I shot this same location a couple weeks ago. I haven’t decided on how I want to process mine, but I really dig your black and white. Well done.
