Blue garage door

Here is another shot from our recent night photo walk in Phoenix.  This could be one of the most photographed garage doors in all of Phoenix.  From the blue color to the chipped paint its easy to see why.

I had seen this door on our earlier walk back in January and meant to shoot it then.  It is one of those things that you happen to come across and it screams out to you.  If memory serves I got distracted with another shot and totally forgot about this gem.  Something that seems to be happening more and more as I get older.  Sigh.

It amazes me how I am starting to see the beauty in the most mundane objects.  Back in the 90s when I was shooting film all I ever cared about was shooting landscapes.  Give me green rolling hillsides or majestic mountains and I was  happy as a clam.  BTW, are clams really happy?!?  To think that I would be stoked to shoot a blue garage door just boggles my mind.  Who knew?

Personally I blame the urban exploring photogs out there for this latest fascination.  Well them and Flickr for allowing me access to all their wonderful images.  Not a day goes by that I am not humbled by the images being created by so many talented people.  Just when you think you are starting to get a grasp on something someone posts an image that makes you think “yeah, I’ve still got a long ways to go”.  Mmm, humble pie.

Until next time…

  1. Great photo!

About being excited to shoot a blue garage door, I think that was one of the great parts of the experience. I’ve never done urbex before, but standing in one spot with a dozen or so people made me have to expand my vision to find one awesome thing that maybe no one else noticed. 🙂
