One of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed was this North Shore sunset in Hawaii. I have chased many sunsets while living in Arizona, and this one on the island of Oahu is up there with the best of them.

North Shore Sunset Lights Up the South Pacific

My trip to Hawaii back in August was filled with a lot of work time. That was expected but I was able to see quite a bit of the island during my limited free time. One of the area’s I gravitated towards was the famed North Shore. This area is where surfing legends are born and rule. It is home to thirty foot waves from November to January that test the world’s best surfers. Crazy!

Of course being there in August meant no monster waves, but there was still plenty to see. All of the beaches that make up the North Shore are breathtakingly beautiful! For those who have been there you know what I mean. The turquoise water is an unbelievable shade of blue that just has to be seen. It is mesmerizing  just sitting on the beach and watching the waves roll in. I could do that for hours.

I had only a few nights free to try and catch a sunset during my trip. My first three tries I struck out as Mother Nature didn’t deliver. How that happened is still a mystery. I figured Hawaii was guaranteed an amazing sunset every night. Nonetheless I persevered and on my 2nd weekend attempt I struck gold, or red at least. The clouds hung around and the sky lit up with red and orange colors that were unbelievable. As the saying goes “this picture doesn’t do it justice”.

My photography friends will notice that this image is not on the thirds. That was intentional as the sky and beach warranted equal time in this photo. Rules were made to be broken and stomped on!

Until next time…
